Measuring the Fabric Quantity Needed for Cascade Blinds
Materials for Making Cascade Blinds
Fabric Lining
Stick & Sew Velcro, the width of the finished blind. Small curtain rings, 0.5" (12 mm) diameter approx. A wooden batten, 1" (2.5 cms) x 1" (2.5 cms) x the width of the finished blind.
Nylon cord, 2 x (twice the length of the blind + the width)
3 screw eyelets, Wooden or brass acorn and a wall cleat.
1. The first thing you must do is fix the wooden batten in the needed position. This will be either into the ceiling of the window recess or onto the wall above the window frame.
If the batten will be going outside of the window recess, then it must be at least 2" (5 cms) wider than the window frame/ window sill, whichever is the wider of the two.
2. Get the Velcro out and attack the adhesive side to the front edge of the batten.
3. Next, measure the length starting from the top of the batten and going towards the window sill. Add an additional 4" (10 cms) for hems. If the fabric is patterned, add extra material to it so that the pattern will match up.
4. Then you need to measure the width of the window adding 6" (15 cms) for side hems.
Then divide that number by the width of the fabric to be used and round up to the next whole number. This new number will be the number of widths of fabric that is needed. Add an extra 1" (2.5 cms) for each extra seam.
5. Afterwards, measure the length, starting from the top of the batten to 2" (5 cms) below the window sill and add an additional 4" (10 cms) for the hems. If you are using patterned fabric, add length for pattern matching.
6. Finally, measure the width of the batten and add an additional 6" (15 cms) for the side hems. Then divide the width by the other width of the fabric that will be used.
Round this to the next whole number. To finish, add an extra 1" (2.5 cms) for each extra seam you need. |
